A sandbox should give you freedom if you want quests or not and/or if you want a banner or not. So far the campaign forces you to have a brother, to have a banner and to have quests that you didn't even had a choice to accept or not. This is SURELY NOT a sandbox. Steelwin66 • 3 yr. ago.
I recommend campaign / story mode, it's well done and eases you into the transition, and you can continue as a sandbox game after you complete the storyline. Plus the best armor in the game is only available thru storyline. Just save before story battle events, it's possible to permanently die in them. 13. ethernown.
Best. dregocalad • 2 yr. ago. There is no main quest in sandbox. You can also choose your starting age. Also you start in your selected culture area. And you don't have any family members. And yes you can still make a kingdom. Same as campaign. absolutelyblasted.
Main difference is that the campaign is shit and adds a bunch of shite gameplay that does nothing but make the game obtuse and potentially broken. Sandbox is pretty much what the game should be. The only thing it lacks compared to campaign that could be considered good is a lack of a family member. There's a mod to give you a brother in sandbox
So I had a gameplay of maany hours in 1.6.1 and I updated to 1.7.0 (to hopefully update to 1.7.1 later) and I could play normally from a fresh save but not load older saves.
I admit, so far I have only played with the southern empire. I like the roman like troops. However, for my next game I am thinking of branching out. What kingdoms/troops do you guys like to use? I dabbled a little with Khergites, not overly fond of all horse armies, to many memories of butchering them wholesale in Warband. Although horse archers seem rather brutal this time around.
